Briefs: Yuba-Sutter shops accepting turkey donations

Donations of turkeys are being accepted this week at several businesses during the fifth annual Turkey Drive hosted by the Yuba-Sutter United Way to benefit local residents.

Donation dates and sites and include:

Today — 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at Fotine's, 647 Plumas St., Yuba City.

Wednesday — 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at TJ Norths, 313 D St., Marysville.

Thursday — 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at Cotton's Cowboy Corral, 320 Fifth St., Marysville.

Friday — 3 p.m.-6 p.m. at Farmers Marketplace, 1912 Covillaud St., Marysville.

Saturday — 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Golden Valley Auto Body, 727 Sutter St., Yuba City.

The donations will be distributed by several local organizations including A Hand Up Ministries, Casa de Esperanza, Central Valley Homeless Veterans and the Salvation Army.

Fashion show at farmers market

A holiday vintage fashion show and auction are part of this week's Plumas Street Farmers Market under the water tower on Plumas Street in downtown Yuba City.

The event is 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday at Plumas and Bridge streets. The farmers market is 4 p.m.-8 p.m.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank.

Local author will talk about book

Local author Mira Talbott-Pope will speak about her book "Heart of the Sky" at the upcoming meeting of the American Association of University Women Marysville-Yuba City branch.

She will also talk about her experiences living and working in Guatemala.

The buffet lunch meeting is scheduled at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at Ruthy's restaurant in Hillcrest Plaza, 229 Clark Ave., Yuba City.

MARYSVILLE

Motorcycle club sets turkey drive

Turkey Drive 2012, presented by the Yuba-Sutter West Coast OG Riderz motorcycle club, is slated Saturday to benefit local residents in need.

Participants are asked to bring turkeys for distribution by the Salvation Army.

The turkey drive starts at Yuba Park, 10th and Yuba streets in Marysville, with registration from 11 a.m.-noon.

Participants will ride through parts of Marysville before arriving at the American Legion Hall, 5477 Feather River Blvd. in Linda, for a spaghetti feed.

The ending site also includes music and a raffle.

YUBA CITY

Vendors sought for Christmas Stroll

Local vendors are sought for the 2012 Christmas Stroll in downtown Yuba City, with registration due by Nov. 23.

Applications can be found online at yubacitydowntown.com or at the Yuba City Downtown Business Association, 439 Center St., Suite 201, Yuba City.

"Cowboy Christmas" is the theme for the event scheduled from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. Dec. 7 on Plumas Street.

MARYSVILLE

Holiday dinner set for those in need

An early free Thanksgiving dinner for persons in need is planned by the Good Seed Church of Marysville.

The dinner is 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the 10th Street Diner, 718 10th St. in Marysville.

Donations of food and paper and plastic products such as utensils and tablecloths can be dropped off through Wednesday at the 10th Street Diner.

Volunteers are also needed.
