Briefs: Search comes up empty after chase in Yuba City

A routine traffic stop Saturday night resulted in a brief car chase and hourlong search for the vehicle's driver and passenger, according to Sutter County Sheriff's Department officials.

Dispatch logs indicate the initial stop was made at 9:55 p.m. on Bennett Way and that a passenger from the car fled, said Deputy Adrian Perez. The reason for the traffic stop was unclear. A report with details of the incident has not yet been filed, Perez said Monday.

The driver of the car proceeded to lead deputies on a two-minute chase into the Hillcrest neighborhood of Yuba City, where it crashed somewhere near Sherwood Drive and Park Avenue.

A K-9 unit was used to search for the vehicle's occupants, and a California Highway Patrol helicopter on call nearby responded as well, said Perez. No one was found.
