LOCAL ROUNDUP: Sutter volleyball wins 74th straight BVL match
Wheatland outlasts Gridley; RV wins
The Sutter High volleyball team stayed unbeaten in the Butte View League at 4-0 with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 victory in Orland on Tuesday night.
With the win, Sutter extended its BVL win streak to 74 matches, dating back to 2004, and improved to 17-7 overall.
Ava Payton led the team serving, recording 17 service points and four aces, while Savannah Besso doled out 25 assists to go with four digs and three aces.
Bianca Almeida recorded five kills and Kylee Sallaberry added four kills.
The Sutter JV team topped Orland 25-9, 25-15 thanks to six kills each from Chloe Heape and Taylor Cooper, and five kills from Sara Stephenson.
The Sutter frosh team cruised 25-14, 25-21.
Wheatland 3, Gridley 2
In Gridley — The Bulldogs took the Pirates to five games in a BVL battle before Wheatland pulled out a 24-26, 25-20, 27-25, 17-25, 15-11 victory at Farmer's Hall.
Kiley DeCoster dropped 22 kills, Kassidy Heuvelhorst added 12 kills and Jamie Adams delivered 29 assists.
With the win, The Pirates improved to 20-5 overall and 3-1 in league.
River Valley 3, Natomas 0
In Sacramento — Taylor Massengale and Courtney Massengale combined for 13 kills and the Falcons rolled Natomas 25-5, 25-13, 25-12 in Tri-County Conference play.
McKenzie Skyberg led River Valley in assists with 19, Cheyenne Miller and Meaghan Bains combined for nine aces and Sierra Pedley had five digs.
With the win, River Valley improved to 18-2 overall and moved into sole possession of first place in the TCC with a 6-1 record.
Marysville 3, Mesa Verde 0
In Marysville — Candice Hugi had 10 kills to help power the Indians past Mesa Verde in Golden Empire League play.
Game scores were 25-16, 25-21, 25-12.
Hugi also added two blocks and two aces, while Morgan Cowan-Fayter delivered six kills and two aces for the Indians (11-8, 7-4).
Taylor Ferrari added six assists and three digs and Brooke Bigley chipped in seven digs.
The Marysville JV team won 25-14, 25-14 thanks to a bevy of kills.
Kyla Thornberg had five kills, and Ashley Adamson and Haley Williamson each added four. Athena Huett led the team with four aces.
The Marysville frosh team won 25-18, 25-18.
Emily Collier, Katrina Vang and Sam Vantress combined for eight aces.
Willows 3, East Nicolaus 0
In Willows — Brooke Essary tallied four kills and four aces and Jan Navarro added three kills and two aces, but the Spartans dropped their Sacramento Valley League match to the Honkers in straight sets by scores of 25-9, 25-14-25-9.
With the loss East Nicolaus fell to 4-13 overall and 2-6 in the SVL.
The Spartans also lost the JV match 25-9, 25-8. Rebekah Taylor had four digs and Nicole Helms had a pair of blocks in the loss.
BOYS SOCCER
Faith Christian 8, Lutheran 0
In Yuba City — Sam Ithurburn scored three goals, Sam Valrey found the back of the net twice and Drew Tollenaar dished out four assists to help propel the Lions to a Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League victory over the Panthers.
Seth Stapp, Sun Lee and Chase Gordon also had goals for Faith Christian, which improved to 9-9-2 overall and 4-1 in SMAL play with the win.
Global Youth 7, New Life 2
In Antelope — Kobe Bancroft and Simeon Joiner both scored goals, but the Crusaders dropped their Northern Pacific Athletic Conference game to the Bulldogs on the road.
Courtland Morse, Nick South and Luis Casillas each played well defensively for New Life (3-6-1, 3-4-1.
On Monday, the Crusaders blanked Freedom Christian 4-0 in Fair Oaks.
Bancroft scored three goals and Joiner had one in the victory, while Chase Smotherman and Sullivan Guy added the assists.
GIRLS TENNIS
Yuba City 7, Natomas 2
In Natomas — The Honkers swept singles and continued to stay unbeaten with a victory over Natomas.
Hannah Poukish (6-0, 6-0), Sophie Poukish (6-2, 6-0), Amanda Perry (7-5, 6-2), Kristen Kent (7-5, 6-4), Kendell Cheim (6-0, 6-2) and Anisha Gill (6-0, 6-0) all recorded singles wins to help the Honkers improve to 11-0 overall and 9-0 in the TCC.
Lunden Fletcher and Kaitlyn Boune teamed up to record a 6-4, 3-6 (10-7) doubles victory.

49ers 1, Marin 1
In Linda — Dario Teyes scored a goal on an assist from Mike Olisa and the 49ers tied Marin.
Goalkeeper Edgar Aguirre was credited for his play by coach Imed Dossey.
With the draw, the 49ers sit at 4-7-3 overall and 1-4-2 in the Bay Valley Conference.

Yuba 1, Napa 1
In Napa — Shea Galasphey scored on an assist from Wendy Valencia and the Niners earned a draw in their BVC match to move to 1-6-3 overall and 1-2-3 in conference.

River Valley 2, Natomas 0
In Sacramento — Abby Stamper tallied five aces and three assists and Brianne Kunkle chipped in with three kills and two aces to lead the Falcons to a 25-6, 25-10 TCC victory over the Nighthawks.
Janet Reygoza added five aces and a pair of kills for RV (10-3), which moved to 4-2 in the TCC with the win.
Faith Christian 2, Sacramento Country Day 0
In Sacramento — Abby Maddalena played well at the net and libero Emily Wolfgram had a strong defensive game to help the Lions improve to a perfect 5-0 in SMAL play.
JV FOOTBALL
River Valley 66, Natomas 0
In Sacramento — Bruce Anderson III and Tino Caracciola both rushed for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns as the Falcons crushed the Nighthawks in TCC play on Friday night.
George Garcia and Karlan Parks both added touchdown runs as well for River Valley, which stayed perfect at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the TCC.
Dace Asher threw two touchdowns passes, including one to Logan Zaragoza. Sam Van Dusen added a rushing touchdown and two sacks on defense.
The Falcons received solid play on defense from both Elan Towne and Devin Soares.
