PREP ROUNDUP: Sutter baseball trounces Durham
Colusa girls blank Pierce; Lindhurst tennis slips past Marysville
The Sutter High baseball team had little trouble at Durham on Thursday, rolling to an 11-0 nonleague victory over the five-time defending Northern Section Division III champion Trojans.
Lucas Cryer allowed just two hits through four innings of work from the hill. Colton Minton tossed one inning to close things up for Sutter (7-1).
Jason Suleski led the way in the hitting department, going 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Mat Sanders and Brad Bonnenfant each went 1 for 2 with RBIs.
Randy Post hit an RBI double and scored three times.
Valley Christian 6, Wheatland 3, 8 innings
In Wheatland — Taylor Balogi went 72⁄3 innings with nine strikeouts for the Pirates, but the Lions came away with the victory in extra innings.
Michael Woods went 2 for 3 for Wheatland (1-7) and both Balogi and Devon Day knocked in a run.
SOFTBALL
Colusa 4, Pierce 0
In Arbuckle — Sophia Garcia struck out 15 batters in seven innings of two-hit ball and the RedHawks blanked the Bears in a nonleague matchup.
Garcia also went 3 for 4 from the plate and Ashleigh Biggs finished 2 for 3 for Colusa (6-4).
CO-ED TENNIS
Lindhurst 5, Marysville 4
In Marysville — Marisa Vang and Bill Vue teamed up for a 6-3, 7-5 victory in mixed doubles and the Blazers slipped past the Indians in a tightly-contested Golden Empire League match.
Kou Yang won 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in boys singles and Jennifer Petreuscu won 6-4, 6-2 in girls singles. Chris Xiong joined forces with Baldeep Sandhar for a 6-1, 6-3 win in boys doubles, while Goasia Jenny Vang and Gao Vue picked up a 6-4, 7-5 victory in girls doubles for Lindhurst (3-4, 3-1).
Jacob Fisher won 6-3, 6-4 in boys singles and Myers Lor came away with a 6-0, 6-4 win in girls singles for the Indians.
Randy Valencia and Daniel Sorenson won 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 in boys doubles and Bayshta Aguila and Lucy Murillo earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory in girls doubles for Marysville (4-3, 2-2).
BOYS TENNIS
Live Oak 8, Willows 1
In Live Oak — The Lions cruised past the Honkers after sweeping the singles in a league matchup.
Michael Catbagan (6-4, 1-6, 7-6), Jose Gonzalez (6-0, 6-0), Inderjeet Singh (6-4, 6-0), Aaron Pamma (6-3, 6-1), Enrique Tate (6-1, 6-4) and Gerardo Bermudez (6-3, 6-2) each won in singles.
In doubles, Catbagan and Gonzalez won 8-4 and Singh and Pamma cruised to an 8-3 win for Live Oak (2-2, 2-1)
GOLF
River Valley 225, Pioneer 291
In Woodland — Lucas Vaughn and Jordan Davis both carded a 40 and the Falcons opened their Tri-County Conference schedule with a victory over the Patriots at Yolo Fliers Golf Course.
Steven Spatafore shot a 45, Jordan Noall recorded a 48 and Kyle Gash shot a 52 to round out the scores for River Valley (3-2, 1-0).
Marysville 224, Dixon 246
In Linda — Marysville's Dory Karcher shot a 38 to lead all golfers in the Indians' GEL opener at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club.
The two teams played the course's front nine holes as Garrett Brown carded a 40, Robert Stevenson added a 47 and Logan Brown recorded a 49 for the Indians.
JV SOFTBALL
Lindhurst 23, Marysville 3, 5 innings
In Marysville — Breanna Swint finished 4 for 5 with a triple, double and six RBIs at the plate and struck out 12 while allowing three hits from the circle to power the Blazers past the Indians in a GEL contest.
Alana Michalek went 4 for 4, Dusty Steele was 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, and Emily Hicks finished 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs as well in the win.
Morganne Bragg was 3 for 4 with a triple and drove in two runs, Cassie Ruiz had a 2-for-4 day with a triple and two RBIs, and Maria Mitchell went 2 for 3 for Lindhurst (4-0, 4-0).
Marysville fell to 4-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the GEL with the loss.
