The 'new normal'?

Free Grace Baptist Church

Once upon a time in our country, the “normal” state of affairs concerning marriage was the union of one man with one woman. According to an upcoming “situation comedy” (sic), the “New Normal” is something different. The premise of this “comedy” centers on the trials and tribulations of two homosexual males with successful careers who find that the only thing missing in their lives is a child. Since it is physically and naturally impossible for them to conceive, a single mother comes to the rescue and agrees to act as a surrogate. Hilarity ensues; homophobes are exposed; life is good again.

It seems more and more these days that Hollywood and the news media dictate to us what is “normal.” How many shows today now contain at least one gay character? Slowly but surely Hollywood is planting the evil seed that gay, lesbian, transvestitism and other perversions are OK and should be embraced as “normal.” Has the barrage of TV shows, commercials, school policies, denial of the rights of private businesses, etc., made you succumb to the “New Normal”?

Sadly, there are also many “new normals” in the world of Christianity. Remember when the Gospel had power to save men from their sin? (Romans 1:16) Remember when the Lord Jesus Christ was the only hope of salvation? (Acts 4:12; 16:31) Remember when holiness wasn’t an option? (Hebrews 12:14) Remember when the scriptural call was to “repent and believe the gospel” instead of “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life”? (Mark 1:15) Is preaching the truth of the Word now outdated and so last century? (2 Timothy 4:2-4) When did God change his mind concerning women pastors? (1 Timothy 2:12) When did it become acceptable to him for us to murder the unborn? (Exodus 20:13, 21:22-25; Jer. 1:1-8; Isa. 44:1-2) Despite the fact of polygyny in the Old Testament, when did monogamy cease to be what God intended? (Mark 10:4-9) When did a “gay Christian” stop being an oxymoron? (Rom. 1:27)

It is the responsibility of every true Christian within the context, nurture and discipline of the local New Testament church, to fight against societies’ need to suppress the truth in unrighteousness. (Romans 1:18) God does not teach us in his Word that morality is to be judged by consensus. Just because the majority stipulates that something is OK (like abortion), that doesn’t make it OK.

The idea of evolution, with its subsequent legislative approval in redefining sexuality, has had a devastating effect upon human sexuality, the idea of love and the institution of marriage. It has divorced human sexuality from all morality, responsibility, true masculinity and true femininity. It has redefined sexuality in terms of “free love” (sex devoid of moral barriers or commitment), “self–love” (autoeroticism), bisexuality, voyeurism, transvestism, prostitution, feminism, homosexuality, lesbianism, incest, pornography, pedophilia and even bestiality. It has necessarily reduced human sexuality to a level lower than the brute.

Any redefinition of any part of God’s laws is inherently sinful and wreaks spiritual, moral, social and physical havoc. (Romans 1:18–32) Ideas do have consequences, and accepted “theories” or social mores do not absolve sinners from their sins. Immorality brings upon any people the judgment of God. (Romans 1:24–32)

That which God told Solomon in 2Chron. 7:13 is still true for this country today: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” May we turn from accepting a “New Normal” and beseech God to bring revival and spiritual awakening to our land (Hab. 3:2)!
