PREP ROUNDUP: Sutter boys hoops wins MaxPreps Holiday Classic
YC boys take CV Tournament
The Sutter High boys basketball team is coming home with some hardware.
The Huskies participated in the four-day MaxPreps Holiday Classic in Palm Springs and took first place in their division after finishing tourney play undefeated at 4-0.
Sutter (10-5) topped Rancho Mirage's Marrywood-Palm Valley High 64-40 on Saturday night to clinch the tournament title.
Garrett Stevenson was named tournament MVP and scored 18 points to lead the Huskies. Ty Prince added 13 points and Brandon Chambers tacked on 12 points as both were named to the all-tournament team.
Sutter opened tournament play on Wednesday with a 53-44 win over Villanova Prep. The Huskies defeated Desert Mirage 68-23 on Thursday and Desert Chapel 72-56 on Friday.
The Huskies will stick around the Mid-Valley for their next game as they will face Marysville on Friday at Lesta Joubert Gymnasium.
CENTRAL VALLEY TOURNAMENT
Yuba City 90, Central Valley 65
In Ceres — The Honkers blasted the host Hawks behind an 18-point night from junior Tanner McAlister, who nailed four 3-pointers.
Taylor Elkins was named tournament MVP as he scored 11 points with three 3-pointers. Travis Blas and all-tournament selection Gurpreet Singh each scored 13 for the Honkers (8-6).
Nathan Gillming and Kyle Turnquest each added eight points for Yuba City, which faces Rocklin on Wednesday.
FAITH CHRISTIAN CHRISTMAS INVITATIONAL

In Yuba City — Micah Atkins dropped in a team-high 22 points, but the Lions came up short in an overtime loss to the Eagles in the title game of their own tournament.
Deep Bhatti had a big night with 21 points and 10 rebounds, going 5 of 6 from 3-point range in the process. Justin Glen chipped in with 18 points for the Lions (11-4), which open Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League play on Friday.

LINCOLN TOURNAMENT
River Valley 51, Wheatland 41
In Lincoln — Aleqse Hawkins had a big game with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals to help power the Falcons past the Pirates in the consolation championship of the Lincoln Tournament.
Taylor Massengale battled through foul trouble to finish with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks, and Jagreet Gosal added eight points for River Valley (9-5).
Hawkins and Massengale were both named to the all-tournament team.
Kassidy Heuvelhorst scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the way for the Pirates.
Renae Lichtenberger scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds, and Halen Mariano scored six points to go with five steals and two assists for Wheatland (7-7).
FAITH CHRISTIAN CHRISTMAS INVITATIONAL
Princeton 39, Faith Chr. 29
In Yuba City — Shon Ritchie had nine points and 13 rebounds, and Emily Meyer tallied nine points and nine boards as the host Lions (8-6) fell to the Eagles in the championship game of their own tournament.
Union Mine 60, Marysville 27
In Marysville — Holly Tarr posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds but it wasn't nearly enough for the Indians (8-7) in a nonleague loss to the Diamondbacks at Lesta Joubert Gymnasium.
WRESTLING
Blazers take 15th at tourney
In Sacramento — The Lindhurst wrestling team placed 15th out of 34 teams at the No Guts, No Glory Tournament at Natomas High.
Edgar Rivera led the way for Lindhurst by finishing 4-1 in the 160-pound division, good enough for second place.
Jesus Yanez (138) took fifth with a 6-2 record and Jake Hughes placed fifth in the 120-pound division by going 4-2.
Taquila Yang (113) and Jessie Rameriz (152) both finished 2-2.
JV BOYS BASKETBALL
Highlands 52, Marysville 45
In Olivehurst — Matthew Butcher scored 20 points and Daniel Pelechowicz added 11 points and seven assists in the Indians' loss to the Scots on the final day of the Lindhurst Blazer Holiday Classic.
Casey Carlson finished with 10 points for the Indians (3-10).
Ponderosa 60, Yuba City 55
In Roseville — John Horn scored 20 points and dished out seven assists as the Honkers (7-7) fell to the Bruins at the Roseville Tournament.
Angel Hernandez had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while all-tournament selection Parker Lowe scored nine points to go with 13 rebounds.
FROSH BOYS BASKETBALL
River Valley 66, Mesa Verde 54
In Citrus Heights — Charles Dawson led the Falcons (3-12) with 18 points in the final day of play at the Mesa Verde Tournament.
Clarence Pierson and Jagjot Takhar both scored 14 points to round out the scoring for RV.
