Holiday Memory: 'Jesus Birthday' a favorite tradition

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Our favorite family Christmas tradition is that of “Celebrating Jesus’s Birthday.”

On Christmas Eve, we have a candlelight birthday party for Jesus. We enjoy chili beans, cole slaw and French bread, and his birthday cake of individual vanilla cupcakes with a birthday candle in the middle of each as well as individual ice cream snowballs with a birthday candle in them. We sing happy birthday to Jesus, blowing out the candles all together. We then reflect on and share the blessings of the year.

It’s so wonderful to hear from the children the events or things that mean so much to them. We make the party as special as we can by using our Christmas linens and special Christmas dishes. We have the same menu every year, not taking away from or adding to it. We enjoy this supper much more than the actual Christmas meal. This is a very special time for our family.

This is our very favorite Christmas tradition.

BACK TO SCHOOL?
The new GI Bill benefits vary from state to state depending on tuition and fees, replacing the previous flat stipend, and also includes a formula for private college assistance. Do you agree with this approach?
Yes, it allows veterans more choices of where to attend college.
I like it, but the private school policy is flawed in California.
I think it's too generous.
No, it pits states against each other.
