YUBA COLLEGE HOOPS: 49ers lose in stunner to Napa Valley

The Yuba College men's basketball team beat Napa Valley by 50 points earlier this season — on Friday, the 49ers were stunned.

The last-place team in the Bay Valley Conference nailed 15 3-pointers and all Yuba coach Doug Cornelius could do was watch as his team was upended 77-76 on the road.

The loss snapped a 40-game conference game win streak the 49ers (17-7, 11-1) had been thriving on.

"I'm sick to my stomach," Cornelius said. "We played terrible, and they hit everything."

The 49ers' leading scorer Chris Smith did not play due to an ankle injury, but Cornelius said his team should have won, regardless.

"We're down by 12 at the half and battled back," Cornelius said. "But we shot the ball terribly."

Yev Dyachenko led the team with 15 points and six rebounds, while Jaysen Williams contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds. Akachi Okugo and Achoki Moikobu each added 13 points a piece.

Yuba has four critical games, two of which will be at home — Feb. 13 against Mendocino and Feb. 22 against Merritt.
