PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Sutter sweeps BVL championships

The Sutter High cross country team swept the competition at Wednesday's Butte View League championships in Sutter as the varsity boys, varsity girls and junior varsity boys all took home league titles.

Leading the varsity boys was Alec Bell, who took fourth overall in the 3.1-mile race, finishing in 17 minutes, 44 seconds. Right behind him was senior Cody Meredith, who qualified for the State Meet while at Faith Christian last year, and finished fifth at 17:51 in Wednesday's race.

Tyler Eck took sixth at 17:55. Bell, Meredith and Eck were all named to the All-BVL team for their efforts.

Rounding out the scoring five for the Huskies were Diego Montes (11th, 18:21) and Trenton Ferrera (14th, 18:38).

The Sutter girls varsity squad's scoring five finished 7th-11th in descending order to hoist the league championship.

Katie Woodard (22:46), Jessie Jimenez (23:06), Lily Johnson (23:22), Taylor Ford (23:45) and Sarah Trujillo (23:50) led the Huskies to the victory.

Tyler Chambers helped the JV boys complete the sweep as he set the 2.1-mile course record at 12:02 to claim first-place honors.

Julian Kim took fourth with a 12:27 and Scott Roberts clocked in at 12:45 to finish fifth.

Up next for the Huskies is the Northern Section championship on Nov. 8 at West Valley High in Cottonwood.
