Letter: VFW reaches out to veterans
To all veterans of foreign wars' comrades:
When you got to the front lines, were you scared? Who was going to back you up? Did you want to duck your head and pray? That worked ... you are home now. When you walk into some place and someone says "Thank you for your service," you feel proud. You deserve it!
But, some were not as lucky as you. They came home with scars on their body and in their heart.
Some of you need to talk to someone who has been there. Well, you can find that someone at a Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting. You are welcome to come to any meeting when you want to, and you may very well benefit from being around some guys who feel like you do.
The VFW does a lot of things for the vets. We visit them in hospitals and/or at home. We do military funerals. We provide assistance to family members who need help. And, you can be a part of this great organization in our community. Come on out to the VFW Hall at 4956 Powerline Road, Olivehurst, the second Friday of every month at 7:30 p.m. Spouses are welcome to come along and be part of the auxiliary.
