Yuba City man, 23, ID'd as victim of apparent drowning
A 23-year-old Yuba City man has been identified as the victim of an apparent drowning Monday in the Feather River.
Jay Saner died at Rideout Memorial Hospital on Monday afternoon after he was pulled from the river near the Sutter County Airport, the Sutter County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday.
A formal cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy was underway Tuesday morning, Undersheriff Jeff Pierce said.
Emergency responders were called around 12:45 p.m. to a report of a man drowning near the levee of Second Street near Mosquito Beach.
A local fisherman spotted Saner struggling under a log on the river and tried to help.
Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened.
