Military Briefs: April 29, 2012

West Point Class of 2012 Cadet Douglass "Brance" Waggoman has been presented with the David M. Fraser Award for Engineering Excellence and Leadership.

The award is presented annually to an engineering major who must be graduating with a degree in engineering, achieve a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, taken part in engineering-related activities and served as an informal leader and role model within his or her graduating class. Waggoman's first post will be Fort Lewis, Wash.

Waggoman, a 2007 graduate of Yuba City High School, is the son of Jud Waggoman and Lynn Shirly.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Micah L. Schrotberger, the son of Mark and Sharon Schrotberger of Yuba City, has arrived for duty at Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.

He is a cyber-transport systems technician assigned to the 28th Bomb Wing at the base, his first duty station after completing technical school at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.

Schrotberger graduated in 2010 from Faith Christian High School.

Air Force Captain Dr. Raman P. Singh, son of Avtar Singh and Neelam Saini of Yuba City, has been selected for promotion to major.

He is assigned to the Beale Air Force Base Medical Group and practices pediatrics and osteopathic medicine.

Singh is a 1997 graduate of Yuba City High School and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California Davis in 2001.

He received his osteopathic medical degree in 2007 from Midwestern University in Chicago and completed a residency in pediatrics, as well as serving as the program's chief resident for an academic year, at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

In 2010, he attained board certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Garrett A. Tharp graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is a 2008 graduate of Marysville High School and earned an associate degree in 2010 from American River College in Sacramento.

Marine Corps Pvt. Cinthia Mendoza completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

She is the daughter of Leonor and Margarito Mendoza of Yuba City.

Marine Corps Pvt. Dulce M. Romero completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

She is the daughter of Maria Munoz of Yuba City.

Army Pvt. Trevor J. Bensberg has graduated from the fire support specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The son of Angela J. Roubal of Marysville, he is a 2010 graduate of Marysville High School.
