Marysville's Walker set for WBC

Former Indian to play for Australia

Marysville High graduate Mike Walker will make his debut with Team Australia tonight in the third annual World Baseball Classic.

The former Indian, now a prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, will take the field with Australia tonight against Chinese Taipei in pool play at Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on the MLB Network. Walker's family and friends are hosting a viewing party tonight at the Happy Viking Sports Pub & Eatery on Plumas Street in Yuba City.

Walker, a graduate of the University of the Pacific, was drafted in 2010 by the Brewers and played for Milwaukee's Class A-Advanced affiliate in Brevard County where he was an All-Star in 2012.

Walker, who's mother is Australian, holds dual-citizenship in both the United States and Australia.
