Letter: Police association supporting Gill
In September, the Yuba City Police Officers' Association unanimously voted to support Kash Gill for City Council. This endorsement was the first in more than 15 years for the organization. Two of the five candidates for council sought our endorsement, Gill and Rick Walsh. We chose to support Kash because his vision and values closely match those of our area law enforcement officers.
While we have endorsed Kash, at this time he has not received a contribution from our organization for his campaign. It is upsetting to hear candidate Walsh tout that he is not receiving special interest money, implying that other candidates are.
At a candidate forum hosted by the Sutter County Taxpayers Association and the Sutter Buttes Tea Party, Walsh made a statement that "police officers only write reports." Walsh also stated that citizens should arm themselves and look out for each other — implying that Yuba City would be better operated under marshal law.
Well, in case Mr. Walsh didn't know, some citizens are already doing just that — they are the Norteño and Sureño street gangs. Is this the kind of leadership voters want for Yuba City?
I think most voters would side with Kash Gill, who wants to reduce crime and keep criminals off our streets. Join the Yuba City Police Officers' Association in supporting Kash Gill for City Council.
