Read all about it: The future in Linda

The library of the future will open in Yuba County in January 2014.

That's when the two-year renovation of the Yuba College Library at its Linda campus is expected to be completed.

"We're trying to be a 21st century library," said Elena Heilman, Yuba College librarian.

That includes 24-hour access by patrons to information via the Internet, she said.

"People want information now," Heilman said. "They don't want to wait."

They also want group study rooms. Ten will be added to the new library. They reflect what the college librarian calls "social learning" and the impact of social media.

All the changes still leave students interested in a site that's held a lure to scholars for centuries.

They want, Heilman said, a quiet place to study.
