Letter: Surface water choice will save her money
I am a homeowner in the Walton water area and I welcome the proposed change to city surface water, as it will save me money. I have a whole house filter and water softener, and the Walton water still tastes terrible. I currently spend $23 to $25 a month on drinking water that I haul home each week from a discount grocery chain.
I called a national water company and was quoted $23 a month minimum delivery charge to supply a one-person household. Surface water for my entire house will only add $19.80 to my current monthly water bill. I will save money, save my back, and have better tasting, healthier drinking water right from my faucet.
I will also have better water for my house that will save money in repair and replacement costs to appliances from mineral build up. Some examples are water heater, dishwasher, and refrigerator icemaker.
In addition, I will spend much less time scrubbing mineral spots from tile, windows, and vehicles using special cleaners or steel wool. That is a lot of benefit for less money than I pay now for only drinking water. I wouldn't trade my neighborhood for the world, but I sure would trade the water.
The choice seems clear. I've been to the meetings and heard both sides. I support the change to surface water in the Walton area. It will be healthier and it will save me money.
