Yuba-Sutter

Blood drives are set this week

BloodSource is sponsoring two blood drives this week in the Yuba-Sutter area.

Sites are:

• Brownsville — 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ponderosa Community Center, 17103 Ponderosa Way.

• Beale Air Force Base — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Activity Center. Walk-ins are welcome.

Blood donors must be in generally good health, free from cold symptoms for at least 48 hours, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.

Photo identification is required.

Yuba City

Nursing school plans town hall

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is hosting a town hall meeting in Yuba City for local input in how the school can serve the rural area.

The meeting is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Fremont-Rideout Conference Center, 989 Plumas St. Yuba-Sutter residents and health professionals are invited to take part in the school's development.

Weight loss is topic of free lecture

"Losing Weight and Maintaining Weight Loss" is the topic of a lecture planned at The Process of Healing, 481 Ainsley Ave., Yuba City.

The one-hour lecture, with "wholistic" therapist Harry Chrissakis, will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 28. Admission is free.

Health fair set for Sutter employees

A health and wellness fair for employees and families of the Sutter County Superintendent of Schools and Sutter County School District offices is planned.

The event is from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at Feather River Academy, 1895 Lassen Blvd., Yuba City.

Activities include hearing and vision screenings, information on car seat safety and boat/water safety and child fingerprinting.

Marysville

Rideout hospital receives awards

Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville received the Pulmonary Care Excellence Award, ranking it in the top 10 in the nation for pulmonary care.

The award was presented by HealthGrades, a leading independent health care ratings organization.

Results are based on an annual study that analyzes patient outcomes at most of the nation's hospitals.

In addition, the hospital received five-star ratings in several categories, including for overall pulmonary services, for treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and the treatment of pneumonia.
