Wheatland man held in slumber beating
A Wheatland man was arrested shortly after he broke into another man's home and beat him while he was sleeping, according to the Wheatland Police Department.
Joseph Monroe Jacobs, 23, of the 3100 block of Bradshaw Road, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury and burglary after police found him in the vicinity of the victim's home.
“It's not something that happens in Wheatland,” Police Chief Dan Boone said Thursday.
According to Boone, Jacobs forced his way into the home of Sean David Johnson, 20, in the 600 block of Evergreen Drive at about 6:25 p.m. Tuesday.
The two men know each other and had an ongoing dispute, Boone said.
Jacobs began striking the sleeping Johnson with his hands and feet, Boone said.
Johnson was transported by ambulance to Rideout Medical Center in Marysville, where he received stitches for abrasions from the attack.
An officer recognized Jacobs as he walked on Evergreen Drive, arrested him and transported him to Yuba County Jail, where he was booked on $25,000 bail.
