80th Birthday: Nichols

Friends and family are joining Wheatland resident Karl Nichols to celebrate his 80th birthday with festivities from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 20 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5091 Wheatland Road, Wheatland.

The celebration is being hosted by his daughters.

Born Oct. 19, 1932, in Meza, Ariz., he has lived in Wheatland for more than 66 years.

He served as a member of the Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department for more than 55 years, 25 years as fire chief, and was a member of the Wheatland/Plumas Brophy Firefighters Association since it began in the late 1970s until it dissolved in 2006.

A Wheatland High School graduate of 1950, he attended Yuba College and retired as a farmer/rancher. His hobbies include fishing and gardening.

He is married to Betty Nichols and has four daughters, Connie Shumway and Marilyn Nichols, both of Wheatland; Kathryn Egbert of Lawrence, Kan.; and the late Carolyn Phillips.

His family also includes 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
