All four of the top teams in Division I picked up wins on Friday, yet the rankings have shifted based upon quality of wins.
Paradise remains D-I's unanimous No. 1 in the Northern Section Prep Football Media poll. But Chico dropped from second to fourth after letting Central Valley, an unranked D-II team, keep it close until the fourth quarter.
Despite the Panthers' win, they fall in the D-I rankings after Foothill pulled out a home win over No. 5-ranked Shasta and Enterprise thumped Red Bluff. Foothill claims the No. 2 spot for the first time this year with 40 points while Enterprise (32) is third and Chico (27) fourth. Shasta remains fifth, but needs a win over unranked Red Bluff this week to hold on to a spot in the top five.
West Valley, which was idle last week, held on to its six first-place votes atop D-II. Sutter's 55-7 win over then unbeaten Wheatland wasn't enough for the Huskies to gain any ground, coming in with 49 points for the second straight week. Yreka (29) picked up its fifth win of the year and ranks third. Orland's shutout of winless Gridley moved the 3-1 Trojans (19) to fourth, ahead of Wheatland (11).
Trinity moved up a slot in D-III after receiving a forfeit win last week. The Wolves (38) trail unanimous No. 1 Pierce. East Nicolaus (26) moves into the rankings for the first time this year and is ranked third. Hamilton (22) is fourth, while Modoc and Willows are knotted in a tie for fifth.
In Division IV, Portola and Chester are first and second respectively, while Biggs (28) hops Burney, which was shut out by St. Bernard's of Eureka. The Raiders (13) fell two spots to fifth, behind Maxwell (24).
Redding Christian (43) picked up three more first-place votes in D-VI (8-man) and jumps Dunsmuir (41) for second behind Butte Valley (48). Unbeaten Mercy (18) and Tulelake (14) swapped spots to round out the division rankings.
