Honkers boys soccer shuts out Nighthawks
Yuba City High's boys soccer team shut out visiting Natomas on Thursday, 3-0, under the lights at Geweke Field.
Andres Navarro, Lalo Parades and Oszaldo Garcia each scored a goal for the Honkers (11-2 overall, 2-1 Tri-County Conference.)
Coach Paul Shank praised the play of Benito Sandoval and Roberto Paras in the midfield, and Jake Dickerson, Sim Randhawa, Gio Guzman and Nate Gutierrez on defense. Goalie Nikola Dokic was credited with six saves.
VOLLEYBALL
Yuba City 3, Pioneer 1
Setter Katie Dailey was the key as Yuba City topped host Pioneer, 25-13, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16, to open Tri-County Conference play.
Dailey had 37 assists and eight digs for the Honkers (11-1 overall)
Erin Hampton had five aces and two blocks, Abbie Haymore had 11 kills and five blocks, Eryn Kirby had 12 kills, six blocks and 11 digs, Katelyn Noreen had 10 kills, Bianca Martinez had 13 digs and Danielle Holmes had eight kills.
East Nicolaus 3, Orland 0
East Nicolaus tripped Orland in straight sets Thursday, 25-21, 25-22, 25-23. With the win, the Spartans are 3-3 overall.
Alyssa Smotherman had 30 assists and two aces, Alyse Uhland had 12 kills, and Ann Wimple had six kills and six points.
GIRLS TENNIS
Yuba City 9, Natomas 0
Yuba City won all but two games in overpowering Natomas. With the win, the Honkers improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Tri-County Conference.
In singles play, Madeline Stephens, Breanna Wallace, Helena Lancaster, Stephanie Suen and Maribel Pabalan all won 6-0, 6-0, and Shannon Cassidy triumphed 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, Miranda Martinez and Madison Bevacque, and Lauren Iverson and Manjot Grewal both won 6-0, 6-0, and Angela Noland and Liz Fabian won 6-1, 6-0.
Live Oak 6, Mercy 3
Karen Jhutti won 6-4, 6-1 to help Live Oak move to 1-1 in the Greater Mountain Valley League and 5-3 overall.
Other singles winners were Rachel DeWitt (6-1, 6-0), Laci Rogers (6-2, 6-1) and Julie Avalos (6-3, 6-2).
In doubles action, Jhutti teamed with Dewitt to win 8-4 and Rogers teamed with Avalos for the 8-6 win.
JV BOYS SOCCER
Yuba City 1, Natomas 0
Dan Levine scored the lone goal of the game to help Yuba City move to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the Tri-County Conference.
FROSH FOOTBALL
Sutter 21, Marysville 0
Sutter moved to 3-0 with a home win over Marysville.
Grant Campbell ran and threw for a touchdown, while Dillon Whitsett also ran for a score.
Leszek Ratajczak intercepted a pass and also caught a touchdown for the Huskies. Ryan Cargill and Dustin Moorehead each recovered a fumble and Blake Ahlers had two sacks in the win.
River Valley 38, El Camino 21
The Roberts brothers, Tyler and Justin, racked up 250 yards of offense and four touchdowns to lead River Valley (1-0-1) to a win.
