Senior Master Sgt. Walter Witkowski

U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Walter Witkowski is the son of Marjorie Lowe of Yuba City and brother to Marjorie Dunham of Garden Grove.

Witkowski joined the Air Force in September 1976 in a delayed enlistment program. He graduated from Yuba City High School in June 1977.

He is an Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm. He earned his associates in arts and associates in science degrees from Yuba College and bachelor of arts from California State University Sacramento. He is a private pilot and a PADI scuba diver.

Witkowski has worked for Fed-Ex Express in Yuba City for 22 years. He has served the Air Force for 33 years as a loadmaster and is an active reservist.

Over the years he has served in the Panama invasion in Operation Just Cause and the Gulf War in Desert Shield/Storm. He is flying combat missions to Afghanistan and Iraq on the C-5 Galaxy out of Travis Air Force Base. Witkowski will receive the Airman's Medal for assisting in extinguishing a fire on a MIG-17 jet fighter.
