PREP ROUNDUP: Falcons, Huskies pick up wins on the mat
Joseph Aurre started the evening with a first-round pin in the 138-pound division and the River Valley High wrestling team led from start to finish en route to a 36-32 victory over Rio Linda in a dual meet at Falcon Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
Harlan Shelton (106) won by first-round pin, Carlos Robles (120) won by pin in the second round and Austin Potts (152) won by third-round pin in the victory for the Falcons.
Jordan Davis (195) won by technical fall, Timmy Webb (170) was victorious by major decision and Manjinder Johal (160) won by decision as well for RV.
Sutter 49, Woodland 24
In Sutter — The Huskies picked up six wins via pinfall to open their dual meet slate with a victory over the visiting Wolves.
Jace Heryford (113), Hunter Minton (132), Chase Miles (145), Alex Ingram (152), Riley Vickner (160) and Mike Thompson (195) each picked up pins in the victory.
Zach Bell-Mathews (138) won by major decision, while Alex Lopez (126) and Chase Gildea (182) both won in overtime for the Huskies.
BOYS BASKETBALL
East Nicolaus 53, Los Molinos 51
In Los Molinos — Drew Orr scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Spartans to a nonleague road win.
Adam Driver chipped in with 13 points and Ty Shill added 12 more in the win for East Nic (2-4).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lindhurst 46, Live Oak 39
In Live Oak — Sarah May scored 19 points and Mirian Corona added nine points of her own to lift the Blazers (2-5) past the Lions in a nonleague game at Ron Pritchard Gymnasium.
Lucero Topete tallied 21 points and 13 rebounds, Anijah Clark finished with 13 points and seven boards, and Alicia Curiel scored four points came down with 14 rebounds in the loss for Live Oak (1-8).
BOYS SOCCER
Colusa 3, Wheatland 2
In Wheatland — Adrian Garcia scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist, Tony Rico added a goal of his own and the RedHawks slipped past the Pirates in a nonleague match.
Alfonso Ruiz and Gustavo Sanchez both notched an assist, and Felipe Granados and Jose Santana played strong defensive games, Colusa coach Dan Kiely said.
Goalkeeper Fernando Amador recorded six saves in the victory for the RedHawks (3-2-1).
Tony Landaverde notched two goals and Omar Valeriano had two assists for Wheatland (0-5), who received strong defensive play from Javier DeAnda and Justin Merritt, coach David West said.
GIRLS SOCCER
Wheatland 4, Colusa 1
In Wheatland — Haley Howard found the back of the net three times and Sariah Garcia scored another goal to propel the Pirates (2-2-1) past the RedHawks in a nonleague match.
JV BOYS BASKETBALL
Lindhurst 52, Live Oak 33
In Olivehurst — Rene Corona scored a game-high 25 points and Houa Xiong added 10 more as the Blazers (2-3) cruised past the Lions at home.
