Letter: ‘Futures' workshops good thing

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

During the latter part of April, Yuba City High School offered their graduating seniors four days of workshops designed to help them prepare for life after graduation. The event was called “Stepping into the Future,” featured in the Appeal-Democrat April 22. The Appeal-Democrat and other community members were involved and Yuba City High School is very appreciative of these organizations and individuals who contributed their valuable time. It is these partnerships that illustrate how lucky we are to live in an area that supports their youth.

There were many venues for our seniors to enjoy. Venue topics included: mock interviews, money management, motivation, own your own insurance, employment portfolio organization, medical careers, on your own real estate and job interview etiquette. Participating students gained valuable knowledge from these professionals.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the following for contributing valuable information our seniors can utilize as they step into the future: Fremont-Rideout Health Group and Foundation, Wells Fargo Bank NA, Karrine Marefos and Kathy Steele, Bi-County Ambulance, Wheeler Auto, Sutter County One-Stop, Yuba College, Geweke Ford, Comcast, Tri-County ROP, Yuba City Unified School District and the administration and staff at Yuba City High School. These organizations made “Stepping into the Future” a reality in 2009 and have contributed toward the planning of next year’s event, “Stepping into the Future 2010.”

HOMELESS SHELTER?
Yuba City is considering using the former fire station No. 4 on Walton Avenue as a cold-weather shelter for homeless families. Is this a good idea?
Yes. We've gone too long with limited options for homeless families.
It's a good idea, but the fire station is a bad location for this.
No. The city has better things they can use the building for.
I'm not sure.
