Family: Husband, Brent; three kids, Zach, 13, Ethan, 10, and Madison, 8.

Residence: Yuba City.

Occupation: Fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at Cordua Elementary in Hallwood. Adding fourth grade in second half of year.

What do you like the most about teaching? Inspiring kids to realize they can do more than they think they can. That they can dream. That there is still hope in the world to do good things.

Hobbies, interests: Technology, writing and reading. Being with family, researching new ways to teach online.

Were there any interesting presents for Christmas this year? The kids got a Wii U, and family came from Arizona.

Any New Year's resolutions? Professional-wise, I do hope to be even better this year. I look forward to that in this next year — what I can accomplish with the kids.

What is the closest you've been to a famous person? Received an award from a TV news anchor in San Diego.

If you were granted one wish, what would it be? To be debt free. That would be awesome.

Favorite television show? "Doctor Who."

What brought you to the Yuba-Sutter area? Family moved from Georgia for husband's pastoral position about four years ago.

Whom do you most admire? My parents. They are very accepting and loving.

What was your first job? At 16, worked at a frozen yogurt shop in Chandler, Ariz.

What your dream vacation consist of? Disney Cruise for the family. Europe with my husband, particularly Paris.

Favorite places to go to in the area? Kids' schools, church location, going downtown in Marysville and Yuba City.

If you were in charge, what would you change about the community? A big book store. Some bigger clothing stores to keep people shopping here instead of driving to Roseville.

What was the last good book you read? "Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle, introduced me to science fiction.

What is your worst fear? The safety of my family, making sure everyone is safe, especially in light of what happened in Connecticut.
