100 years

A pumpkin that for its size and weight has never been equaled in the Sacramento valley is on display in the window of the E.G. Van Arsdale grocery store on Bridge street. This immense melon weighs 125 pounds and stands about three feet high and was grown on the C.P. Reische ranch in Sutter county, near Meridian.

Since the arrest of speeding automobilists are becoming so frequent in Marysville, agitation for the repeal or amendment of the ordinance restricting machines to a speed of 10 miles an hour is noticeable.

50 years

Amendment to the Yuba City ordinance controlling operation of pinball machines in public establishments to prevent minors under 18 years of age from playing them will be prepared at once for action by the city council.

10 years

The Sutter County Sheriff's Department cordoned off part of an abandoned nursery where demolition workers found dynamite that apparently was about 50 years old. A worker on a tractor was clearing an old building in the 3400 block on Riego Road when he nearly ran over 11⁄2 cases of dynamite, or about 75 sticks.

A Gridley school was put on temporary lockdown while law enforcement agencies unsuccessfully searched for a man who fled after a state Department of Fish & Game warden attempted a traffic stop.

The first components of Global Hawk, the unmanned air reconnaissance aircraft, have been deployed at Beale Air Force Base.
