Yuba baseball improves to 2-0 in BVC
Yuba College's 2-0 start to Bay Valley Conference play didn't come without drama.
The 49ers baseball team was walloping Los Medanos 11-2 on Saturday before coughing up the lead in the final innings and rallying back for a 14-13 victory at home.
Starting pitcher Chris Stocker was solid for Yuba, pitching six strong innings before the bullpen completely unraveled. Taylor Hickman and Ray Osuna, the duo who immediately succeeded Stocker, each gave up three runs while tallying a single out.
Still, Yuba was in OK shape until experienced reliever Brandon Pope surrendered five runs in the top of the ninth.
The debacle put the 49ers down 13-12 entering the final frame. But some poor defensive play by Los Medanos allowed two 49ers to score on a game-ending error that puts them at 6-5 on the season.
Zak Morgan was 4 for 5 and Brennan Alejo was 3 for 5 for Yuba, which tallied 13 hits in the game and committed a single error.
