Frustrating loss for Yuba College baseball

A solid start for the Yuba College baseball team quickly unraveled into a frustrating loss.

After the 49ers shot out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, fielding issues paved the way for a 4-3 defeat to Marin on Saturday that had coach Tim Gloyd steaming.

"It's just getting really frustrating," he said.

The first batter of the game popped up a shallow fly to third base, which was dropped. The next batter reached after the team failed to back up first base. Both became unearned runs in a four-error afternoon.

"It's just stupid, I mean a pop up," Gloyd said. "It wasn't even sky-high."

Marin added a run in the seventh and eighth innings to take the Bay Valley conference victory.

Yuba pitcher Tyler Osborne pitched all eight innings and struck out five in an effort Gloyd said "should have" earned him a victory.

"It wasn't his fault," the coach said.

Alex Cervantes was 3 for 5 for Yuba, which dropped to 8-13 overall and 4-8 in BVC play.
