Root beer floats at support meeting

A "Root Beer Float Night" for the kids and a back-to-school panel are part of this week's meeting of the Yuba-Sutter Children's Type 1 Diabetes support group.

The meeting is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Fremont-Rideout Conference Center, 989 Plumas St., Yuba City.

The meeting includes a question-and-answer session with officials from school districts in the community and a movie.

In addition, pens, pencils, crayons and paper for students are available on a first come, first served basis, along with sample 504s and diabetes medical management forms for students' doctors to sign.

Time change for prostate meeting

The Man to Man Prostate Support Group has changed its meeting place for September to a new location.

The group is meeting at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Fremont-Rideout Conference Center, 989 Plumas St., Yuba City, across the street from Fremont Medical Center.

The support group regularly meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

Low-cost prostate screening

Low-cost prostate cancer screenings are scheduled Sept. 14 at the Sutter Medical Foundation, with urologists Drs. Robert Wright Jr. and Jan Babiszewski.

The screenings are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the office closed from noon to 1 p.m., at 460 Plumas Blvd., Yuba City.

Cost for the service, $15, includes the lab fee for a prostate specific antigen blood test. Cash and check payments will be accepted at the time of the screening.

Medical insurance billing is not available.

The physician exam is free.

Concert benefits Shriners Hospitals

Country music singer John Michael Montgomery is performing in a live concert in Sacramento to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California.

The benefit is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Crest Theater, 1013 K St. Tickets range from $25 to $55.

CNA nurses training at Red Cross

Training as a certified nurse assistant is available through the American Red Cross of Northeastern California.

The six-week course is from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, with the next class starting Sept. 6.

The course is required for the exam to become certified as a CNA in California.
