Oratorio Society sets schedule

The Yuba Sutter Oratorio Society has announced its 2012-13 concert season schedule for the Yuba Sutter Symphony Orchestra and the Oratorio Society Chorus. All concerts are free; donations accepted.

The season begins with the symphony's benefit concert for Pink October, set for 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Yuba City.

This "Fall Classics Concert" will include Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme" featuring Rebekah Hood, cello. All proceeds go to Pink October to benefit local women dealing with breast cancer.

The symphony and chorus will present their 74th annual performance of Handel's "Messiah" at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Yuba City, conducted by Corey Kersting.

The chorus, directed by Linda Robinson, will rehearse for "Messiah" at 7 p.m. Mondays from Oct. 1 through Nov. 26 at the Yuba City High School band room. The public is invited to participate. Auditions for "Messiah" solos are set for 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at the YCHS band room.

The symphony will present its annual "Young Artist Concert," featuring winners of the Young Artist solo competition, at 7 p.m. March 2; and its annual "Spring Fling Pops Concert" at 7 p.m. May 5. Both events will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.

The symphony will provide patriotic music at the Yuba City Children's Fourth of July parade set for 10 a.m. July 4 at the Town Square fountain in Yuba City.
