If Norma Sampley of Yuba City had a million dollars, she would donate some to Stanford Hospital, help hungry children ... and have her kitchen remodeled.

Norma Sampley

Age: 74.

Family: Husband, Jim; four sons; and several grandchildren, including Maghen Sampley.

Residence: Yuba City.

Occupation: Retired school cook.

Hobbies, interests: I like to read and used to sew. I love spending time with my family.

Where do you get your news? Appeal-Democrat and TV.

How long have you been in the Yuba-Sutter area? I have lived here 55 years or more.

What is a favorite part of the area? I am fond of my church — Word of Life. Sometimes it's hard to find a church where you're really happy. I have taught Sunday school for more than 50 years.

What is your dream vacation? I love to go to Branson, Mo., and Disney World.

What is the closest you've been to a famous person? When I was a kid I saw (actor) Randolph Scott in a parade in Porterville. A few years ago, I saw (Bible teacher) Joyce Meyer on stage.

Tell us about a life-changing experience: My granddaughter Maghen's organ transplant (she had a heart and double lung transplant when she was 11 years old; she is now 23). That experience in her life has changed me.

If you were granted one wish, what would you wish for? Peace in the world and that children wouldn't be hungry.

What would you do with a million dollars? Part to Stanford Hospital for helping Maghen, some to hungry children, and to help my family. And I would like to have my kitchen remodeled.

What is a favorite memory? Going to the coast when the kids were little at Wages Creek outside of Fort Bragg. The whole family tries to go over there for reunions.

What would you like to see different in the community? I would love to see unity among city officials.

Favorite book: The Bible, especially the Book of Ruth.

Favorite movie: "The 10 Commandments" with Charlton Heston.

What is your pet peeve? People that are not forgiving of other people — that bothers me. I used to be that way. When you go through hard times yourself you learn from your mistakes and learn to be more forgiving.
