Briefs: Wastewater facility opens Saturday
A ribbon cutting ceremony this weekend highlights the new solar project at the Olivehurst Wastewater Treatment Facility, which came online in July.
The ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at 3908 Mary Ave. in Olivehurst.
The 5-acre facility produces about 840 kilowatts of electricity or about 1,800 megawatt hours per year, according to a statement from the Olivehurst Public Utility District.
OPUD estimates it will save $2.8 million in electricity costs during the next 20 years of solar array operation.

Center offers mammograms
Yuba City Advanced Imaging Center is offering mammography screenings at one price this month for any woman age 40 years and older whether or not she has health insurance.
The screenings, at $30, are in conjunction with Pink October and the Geweke's Caring for Women Foundation.

Military vehicles on display
A living history display of military vehicles and memorabilia is set from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Butte County Fairgrounds, 199 E. Hazel Road, in Gridley.
Admission is free.
Including jeeps, trucks, tools and a tent encampment, the display is being staged by the Northern Recon Group of Military Vehicle Restorers and Collectors.

Free steak with blood donation
Blood donors will receive a free steak barbecue dinner at an upcoming blood drive hosted by the Americans Motorcycle Club and the American Legion Post 807 in Linda.
The blood drive is from noon-4 p.m. Oct. 27 at the American Legion hall, 5477 Feather River Blvd. Photo identification is required.
Participants are advised to eat and drink before donating.

Family of the Year entries due
Entries are due by Monday for the annual Yuba-Sutter Family of the Year essay contest open to high school students in grades nine to 12 in Yuba and Sutter counties.
The topic is "The importance of strong families."

Accident victim remains critical
A Yuba City woman remains in critical condition at a Roseville hospital a week after she was thrown from her vehicle during a rollover crash on Walton Avenue.
Maryellyn Teresa Palmeri has been in at Sutter Memorial Hospital since Oct. 5.
Palmeri, 49, was ejected around midnight while driving south in the 3100 block of Walton Avenue, south of Yuba City.
She was driving a gray 2009 Nissan Altima at an undetermined speed, the California Highway Patrol said.
Palmeri's vehicle rolled at least three times and landed on the east side of the roadway at the edge of a walnut orchard.
District 10
Fire's cause not known
The cause of a fire that ruined a District 10 farmhouse last week has been officially listed as "undetermined," fire investigators said Thursday.
"It appears the cause may have been electrical, but we were unable to nail down exactly how it started," CalFire-Marysville Capt. Dennis Hunt said.
Authorities said the fire broke out on the east side of the house at 894 Noble Road and spread to the rest of the structure.
Hunt said the home was a total loss and placed damage estimates at about $200,000.
Henry and Doris Hepner lost the home they had lived in since 1970.
