Briefs: Hmong festival is this weekend at Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds
Yuba-Sutter's Hmongs will be hosting a sizable weekend celebration, with a festival for the community's new year today and Sunday at the Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds in Yuba City.
Beginning at 8 a.m. today, the event will feature entertainment, movies, vendors and merchants, food and traditional music and songs.
Traditionally tied to the end of harvest season, the Hmong New Year celebration takes place annually in areas with large Hmong communities and often involves both traditions within homes and among the larger community.
Events will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days at the fairgrounds, 422 Franklin Ave., Yuba City. The event is hosted by the Hmong American Association of Marysville.
YUBA CITY
Democrats host election party
An Election Night Potluck Party hosted by the Sutter County Democratic Central Committee is scheduled from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday at the Democratic Party headquarters, 1747 Live Oak Blvd., Suite L, Yuba City.
A potluck dinner will be served and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share.
The public is invited to join other Democrats to hear the results of the election.

Booster Club plans wine tasting
River Valley High School Booster Club is hosting a wine tasting fundraiser from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 10 at Bali Winery and Tasting Room, 664 Plumas St., Yuba City.
Tickets are $30 at the door or $25 in advance and can be purchased at Bali Winery.
Proceeds to benefit sports at River Valley High School.
Admission includes tasting of four wines, raffle entry and hors d'oeuvres.
