Briefs: Breakfast benefits parents club
Pancakes, eggs, sausage are featured in the annual Pancake Breakfast set this weekend at Robbins Elementary School, 17451 Pepper St., Robbins.
Cost for the event, served from 5 a.m.-10 a.m. Saturday, is $5 for children and $7 for adults.
Money raised will go to the Robbins School Parents Club.

Exhibit focuses on Hmong history
A reception is set for a new permanent exhibit about the history of the Hmong people in Yuba-Sutter at the Community Memorial Museum of Sutter County in Yuba City.
The reception is 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 16 in the museum's new multicultural wing, 1333 Butte House Road, Yuba City. Admission is free.
Created as an Eagle Scout project by Phillip Alvarado, the exhibit includes information on how the Hmong people helped the US military during the Vietnam War and later were forced to flee their homeland, spending long periods of time in refugee camps in Thailand.
The exhibit also has unique items from the culture.

Food program changes schedule
The November distribution schedule for the Sutter County Brown Bag food program has been changed due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Conducted by the Yuba-Sutter Gleaners Food Bank, the food will be distributed:
Yuba City — Wednesday at the Gleaners warehouse, 670 Stafford Way.
Sutter — Nov. 20 at the Sutter Youth Organization building, Acacia Avenue and Butte House Road.
East Nicolaus — Nov. 20 at the South Sutter Recreation Association building on Palm Street.
Live Oak — Nov. 21 at the Live Oak Community Center, 10200 O St.
Distribution is from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at all locations.

Group seeks public comment
The Child Care Planning Council of Yuba and Sutter counties is accepting feedback from the public on current and future child care needs in the community at two locations in December.
The public hearings on Dec. 6 are 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Yuba County Center for Education, Yuba River Room, 1104 E St. in Marysville; and 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Children's Home Society of California, 1650 Sierra Ave., Suite 102, Yuba City.

Shots fired in neighborhood
A Western Avenue resident said he was grateful that Yuba County sheriff's deputies were close by Tuesday night when a man fired four gunshots from .40-caliber into the air in his neighborhood.
No injuries were reported and it was not clear if anything was struck by the gunfire around 8:30 p.m.
Gregory T. Tucker II, 29, of the 1500 block of Seventh Avenue, was arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm. He was booked into the Yuba County Jail on $25,000 bail.
Deputies said the motive for the shooting was not clear.
The man, who asked not to be identified for safety reasons, said one person was placed in handcuffs Tuesday night and said he was "really happy" to see deputies cracking down on the troubled neighborhood.

Hearing addresses discrimination
A public hearing is scheduled in Yuba City for Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who allege US Department of Agriculture discrimination when seeking farm loan assistance between 1981 and 2000.
The event is 7 p.m.-8 p.m. today at The Refuge Restaurant, 1501 Butte House Road.
Paul Lehman, USDA Farm Service Agency Western Region public affairs specialist, will discuss the claims process now available.
The claims period closes March 25.

Presentation aimed at farmers
Cool fall weather might not put it on one's mind, but the dangers of the Yuba-Sutter area's often fierce summers will be the topic of a presentation on Saturday in Yuba City aimed at agricultural workers.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the session will provide information and tips on beating the heat, and is aimed at members of the Punjabi community, who will receive $20 for attending.
The presentation is an hour long and is at the Sutter County agricultural commissioner's office, 142 Garden Highway, Yuba City. To reserve a space, call 844-6272 or email ramos.veronica@aol.com. Space is limited to 10 people.
