Briefs: YCHS seniors selling Christmas trees

Yuba City High School's class of 2013 is hosting a Christmas tree fundraiser three weekends in December.

Students are selling fresh cut Christmas trees all day Dec. 2, 9 and 16 in the Yuba City High School parking lot at Clark Avenue and B Street in Yuba City.

Prices for trees range from $20 to $95. All proceeds go toward the graduation night fireworks display.

Toys for Tots seeks donations

Yuba-Sutter Marine Toys for Tots Foundation are accepting donations to distribute to local needy families on Christmas.

New, unused toys, electronics and sporting goods can be dropped off at various local businesses including both Walmart locations; Toys R Us in Yuba City; and all Walgreens locations.

Toys must be unwrapped and valued at more than $10.

Museum extends hours for holidays

The Community Memorial Museum of Sutter County store has extended hours for the holiday shopping season.

The store is now open from noon-4 p.m. Sundays, through Dec. 23.

Regular operating hours are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturdays.

A variety of books and educational gifts are for sale at the museum at 1333 Butte House Road, Yuba City.

Salon hosts food, toy drive

Louis Medina's Hair Productions is hosting an Angel Kids canned food and toy drive for the Salvation Army.

Canned food and new, unwrapped toys valued at $10 are being accepted at the salon is located at 764 Plumas St., Yuba City.

Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Donation will be accepted until Dec. 18.

Foundation sets Buttes hikes

The Middle Mountain Foundation offers several hiking opportunities in the Sutter Buttes throughout the year.

Upcoming hikes include:

Nov. 24 — Nature Study at Dean Ranch.

Dec. 8 — Birds in the Buttes; and West Ridge hike at Shaeffer Ranch.

Dec. 15 — Ridge Trek at Bragg Canyon.

The price for each hike range from $35 to $60 and begin at various times and places.

Services set foraccident victim

Memorial services for Kayla Lizama-Pierson, 18, will be held on Monday at Chapel of Twin Cities, 715 Shasta St., Yuba City.

Lizama-Pierson died early Sunday from injuries suffered in a car accident south of Yuba City late Saturday.

A public viewing is scheduled from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.; a rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. The memorial service is at noon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Sierra View Cemetery, 4900 Olive Ave., Olivehurst.

Distracted driver prevention grant

The Marysville Police Department has received a $15,000 2012/2013 Distracted Driver Program grant to enforce distracted driving laws during three two-week mobilization periods during the next year.

The Office of Traffic Safety grant is meant to help prevent deaths and injuries associated with distracted driving, especially text messaging and other use of hand-held cellphones and electronic devices.

Sutter County

Next Tea Partyspeakers scheduled

Nevada County Tea Party organizers Stan and Elaine Meckler will be the guest speakers at the next meeting of the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots.

Parents of Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots co-founder Mark Meckler, they will discuss the direction and goals of tea parties in Northern California.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3, with doors open at 6 p.m., at the Sutter-Yuba Association of Realtors, 1588 Starr Drive, Yuba City.
