Briefs: Body found under 10th Street Bridge

An unidentified man was found deceased under the 10th Street Bridge in Yuba City late Sunday morning.

The adult male body was discovered on the rocks near the bank of the Feather River, and could be seen by pedestrians on the levee and overhead on the bridge.

An autopsy was performed, the Sutter County Sheriff's Department said Monday, and officials are working to determine his identity.

The man sported a beard and was found wearing a San Francisco 49ers jacket.

The Yuba City Police Department is investigating.

Fire claims abandoned house

Fire destroyed an abandoned house in the Hallwood area of Yuba County late Saturday night.

CalFire Marysville responded at 12:23 a.m. to the blaze off Hallwood Boulevard. The 500-square-foot house had been vacant for many years, according to Firefighter Brad Hudson.

Strong winds "did not help anything," said Firefighter Jeff Fuentes of the structure's quick destruction. "It was pretty much burned to the ground by the time we got there."

Loma Rica firefighters also were called to the scene.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Hudson said.
