Briefs: Seminar addresses holiday grief
A seminar on dealing with grief during the holidays is at 5 p.m. Thursday,offered through the Rideout Health Group's Community Health Education Program.
The program, at the Rideout Conference Center, 989 Plumas St. in Yuba City, will be led by Rideout Hospice social worker Mitzi Nay.
Refreshments will be served.

Nay leads the program's two community bereavement groups that meet weekly at the Rideout Conference Center: 10 a.m. Tuesday and 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Make holiday card at workshop
Making holiday cards is the focus of a workshop this weekend at the Yuba County Library, 303 Second St., Marysville.
The public is invited to make a holiday card for someone special and another to take home from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Saturday in the library's Community Room.

Fill truck for toy drive
Walmart in Yuba City is hosting the "fill the truck" toy drive on Saturday in support of the Salvation Army.
From 10 a.m.-4 p.m., customers entering the store at 1150 Harter Road will receive a list of suggested gifts to help fill the Salvation Army's truck.
Walmart stores throughout the Sacramento region are taking part in the event to provide new toys to local children in need for Christmas.

Hospitals selling See's Candy
See's Candy is available for purchase at the Fremont Medical Plaza and Rideout Regional Medical Center gift shops, coordinated by the hospitals' auxiliaries.
The candy sale is planned through December.
All proceeds raised benefit the hospital's medical equipment.
Fremont Medical Plaza is at 970 Plumas St. in Yuba City. Rideout Regional Medical Center is at 726 Fourth St., Marysville.

Bell ringing competition begins
The 14th annual Salvation Army competition between the Marysville and Yuba City Kiwanis clubs continues next week at the Marysville post office.
Members of the Marysville Kiwanis Club will ring the bell from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 14 at 407 C St.
The Yuba City Kiwanis teams started the contest this year with bell ringing on Thursday in front of the Yuba City post office.
This is the first year the teams competed on separate days.
Last year's contest raised $11,617 for the Yuba-Sutter Salvation Army.
In its 13th year, the competition has grown to include members of four local Rotary clubs, the Peach Bowl Lions and other service clubs.

Procession closes streets Sunday
Sections of several streets in Yuba City will be closed 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday for the procession for the Virgin of Guadalupe.
The procession begins at Richland Housing and ends at St. Isidore Catholic Church.
The route starts at Garden Highway and Percy Avenue, goes north on Percy to Morton Street, west to Clark Avenue and ends at 222 Clark Ave.
Clark Avenue will be closed from Franklin Road to Hillcrest Avenue.

Blood drive set at Blockbuster
Bloodmobiles will be set up at Blockbuster in Yuba City as part of the Season of Giving, sponsored by BloodSource.
The blood drive is from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 21 at 769 Colusa Ave.
All participants will receive a T-shirt, a free Cinemark movie pass and MyBloodSource Rewards.
Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old and in generally good health.
Photo identification is required.

Transit youth pass extended thru 2013
Yuba-Sutter Transit's popular discount monthly youth pass program has been extended through 2013 and will be accepted on more routes in the new year.
The program is available through an $85,000 grant from the Feather River Air Quality Management District.
Beginning in 2013, the youth pass will also be accepted on Yuba-Sutter Transit's Foothill, Live Oak and Wheatland routes.
The reduced rate passes, $5 each, for ages 5 to 18 years, offer unlimited use on fixed routes. The pass regularly costs $15 per month.
Passes are available at the transit's sales outlets, by mail and at the Yuba-Sutter Transit office, 2100 B St., Marysville.
