80th Birthday: Lawson

Longtime Yuba-Sutter resident Richard A. Lawson is celebrating his 80th birthday over several days with family and friends.

He is also speaking Dec. 14 at the Museum of the Forgotten Warriors in Linda as commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2563 as the local post is retired, also in its 80th year.

Richard was born Dec. 14, 1932, in Boston, Mass., and has lived throughout the United States, the United Kingdom and Vietnam while serving with the US Air Force from 1950 to 1970.

He and his wife, Leona, live in Yuba City.

A lifetime member of the VFW, also having served as district commander, his memberships also include the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, United Veterans Council, Yuba-Sutter Stand-Down and Cooties.

He also worked for the US Postal Service from 1971 to 1983 and graduated from Yuba College in 1995.

He enjoys stock car racing, model airplanes, arts and crafts and fixing things.

His family includes seven children, Angela Christensen and Bob Myers of Yuba City, Mike Myers of Gridley, Nickie Kitch of Chico, Michael Lawson of Fresno, Josie Duvall of El Paso, Texas, and Debra Ryan of Dassel, Minn.

The family also includes nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
