Garamendi votes for Beale, Travis

US Rep. John Garamendi said his vote Thursday for the final version of the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act was a vote for Beale Air Force Base, particularly in maintaining its core mission of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

"By specializing in mobility and intelligence gathering, Travis and Beale Air Force Bases are the tip of the spear of a military transforming to meet America's national security needs in a post-Cold War world," Garamendi, D-Walnut Grove, said in a press release.

Garamendi, whose 3rd Congressional District includes both bases, said part of drafting the act included his lobbying to keep both the MC-12 mission and Global Hawk Block 30 at Beale.

The final version of the act also includes a pay raise for military service members and improved mental health services.
