New Yuba-Sutter Chamber board chair sees tourism as key
Increasing tourists in the Yuba-Sutter area is the primary objective of the new chairwoman of the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
Jackie Sillman said she will continue the work of past Chairwoman Nicole Delerio and expand business relationships in an attempt to boost the local economy.
According to Sillman, focusing on tourism is the key to achieving those goals. "We go to other people's cities," she said, "and now we want them to come to ours."
Plans are already in motion for a visitors center at the Chamber of Commerce. Sillman hopes the effort will make it easier for visitors to enjoy local lakes and scenery.
To better intergrate tourism with economic development, Sillman said she'd like to see more involvement from local businesses with social networking sites such as Facebook.
"I personally am excited to lead this Chamber with passion and devotion to our membership and their success," she said in an email.
Sillman served on the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce board from 2000-06 and returned in 2011. She has been the owner of the Upholstery Hut for the past 36 years and works as the public education coordinator for Recology Yuba-Sutter.
