What brought you to the Yuba-Sutter area? Originally from Vermont, I relocated to California because it was time for a change. I have been in Yuba City for just over a year.
What do you miss about your old hometown? I still own a house in Vermont — the weather was (recently) minus 25 degrees. I'm not missing anything.
What do you like about the Yuba-Sutter area? It's amazing what a close-knit community this is.
Favorite places to go to in the area: Wherever I go next is my favorite place.
Where would you like to settle down someday? California for a while. My dream is to spend half a year in Palm Springs and half a year in Guerneville.
What is the closest you've been to a famous person? When I worked with the Global Health Council, I met several at different events at the United Nations including Hillary Clinton, about when she was between being first lady and senator; Queen Noor of Jordan; and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
What would you do with a million dollars? Fund literacy mentoring opportunities for children in poverty.
Where is your dream vacation? India. I like the cultural history and the dynamics of its economic development.
Who are your heroes? Bishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela — they are two powerful men who came through horrible circumstances with a positive worldview and hope for humanity.
Do you have a favorite memory to share? Watching thunderstorms come up at a lake where my parents had a summer home in Sunapee, NH.
What is your dream job? Anything that directly influences improving opportunities for children
Favorite book: One of my favorites is "Ordinary Resurrections" by Jonathan Kozol.
What did you want to be when you were a kid? A novelist or a doctor.
Favorite movie: "Europa, Europa."
