Briefs: Pickup slams into bakery

YUBA CITY

Yuba City police are looking for the driver of a pickup that slammed into the Cookie Tree bakery over the weekend.

Details were still sketchy Tuesday.

Around 10:30 p.m. a pickup, possibly white, hit the store at Bridge and Shasta streets, causing major damage, Police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey said.

The sweets shop was closed on Monday because of the damage. According to the company's Facebook page, the store will reopen today.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Yuba City Police Department at 822-4660.

OROVILLE

Arrest in 2010 Yuba City death

A Honcut man entering the Butte County Courthouse in Oroville for a drug case on Tuesday was arrested in a 2010 shooting death, according to the Chico Enterprise-Record.

Butte County sheriff's deputies arrested Justin Taylor Foster, 23, on suspicion of homicide in the death of Andres Cervantes Mendoza, 20, of Yuba City, according to District Attorney Mike Ramsey.

Mendoza's body was found off of Lower Honcut Road near Pheasant Lane, 17 miles south of Oroville, on Oct. 7, 2010.

Ramsey said Mendoza died of a gunshot wound in a drug deal gone bad. Ramsey said the shooting took place where the body was found.

Mendoza's brother had reported him missing on Sept. 1, 2010, after last seeing him nine days prior.

MARYSVILLE

'Agenda' video to air Saturday

The video "Agenda: Grinding America Down" will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday at 723 D St. in Marysville, presented by the Foundation for Individual Responsibility.

Doors open at 1 p.m.

Admission is free, with light refreshments provided.

The film, produced, directed and written by Idaho legislator Curtis Bowers, started out as a short letter to the editor about how American has changed and grew into a video.

It won the grand prize at the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival in 2010.

MARYSVILLE

Band to playat Lee Burrows

Fighting with Fire, an indie/garage rock band with students in a music theory class at Yuba City High School, is featured in the next On Stage event at the Lee Burrows Center for the Arts.

Chasing the Russian opens the concert at 7 p.m. March 7 at 630 E St. in Marysville.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased online at yubasutterarts.org/tickets or at the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council office, 624 E St. in Marysville.

The painting "Dance on the Film" by local artist Don Payne, used on Fighting with Fire's soon to be released debut album "Dangerous Moon EP," will be on display during the concert.
