Business Briefs: Sutter Surgical Hospital rated high for joint work
Sutter Surgical Hospital-North Valley, part of Sutter Health, was listed in the top 10 percent in the nation for joint replacement care by the American Hospital Quality Outcomes 2013: Healthgrades Report to the Nation.
The report evaluated about 4,500 hospitals nationwide on their performance of risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for the most common conditions treated, and procedures performed, from 2009 to 2011.
Prune Day this week in Yuba City
The international prune marketing situation will be one of several topics at the South Sacramento Valley Prune Day co-sponsored by UC Cooperative Extension and the local ag commissioners' offices.
The program is scheduled Wednesday starting at 8 a.m. with sign-ins and refreshments, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1425 Veterans Memorial Circle, Yuba City.
Continuing to 12:15 p.m., the program's topics will include weed control in prune orchards, an update from the Sutter and Yuba ag commissioners, disease research updates, and maximizing profit from an acre of prunes.

Rural-business finance is topic at Yuba College
Information about improving small rural business' and agriculture-related business' financial health and securing small-business loans is featured in the seminar Capital Readiness 2013, hosted by Yuba College.
The seminar is set from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, with check-in at 2:30 p.m., at the Yuba College Health and Public Safety Building, room 2149, 2088 N. Beale Road, Linda.
Admission is free.

'World of Wine' season starting
The monthly "World of Wine" tasting event, hosted by Mike Wreyford the "Wine Guy," starts off its third season on Thursday at Grocery Outlet, 1721 Colusa Ave., Yuba City.
The event is slated from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., with six wines available to try.
The cost is a $5 donation. All proceeds go to a variety of local nonprofit organizations.

Shred papers, donate foods in Umpqua Bank
Umpqua Bank is hosting its annual "Shred Event" for the public and accepting donations of canned foods for Yuba-Sutter Gleaners at local branches through the end of March.
Participating offices are at 1221 Bridge St. and 777 Colusa Ave. in Yuba City; and 700 E St. in Marysville.
During office hours, persons can drop off up to two file-size boxes of unwanted paper to shred and canned food donations for the Gleaners Food Bank Brown Bag program for residents in Yuba and Sutter counties.
Bank hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday. This is the sixth year for the shredding event.
UCCE walnut orchard training slated
Separate field meetings in walnut pruning and training are scheduled by the University of California Cooperative Extension Sutter/Yuba office.
A walnut pruning field meeting is slated from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. March 5 at Nickels Soil Lab in Arbuckle.
In case of rain, the meeting will be rescheduled to 10 a.m. March 6.
The walnut training field meeting is set at 10 a.m. March 7 at Chima Farms, between 5367 and 5439 Carlson Road in Yuba City.
In case of rain, this meeting will move to 10 a.m. March 8.

New Earth Market event to fete second year
New Earth Market in Yuba City is celebrating its second anniversary with festivities from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 9.
Activities include free classes and lectures, children's activities, art walk, local vendors, free samples and music.
