Man fatally shot in Yuba City identified

The Sutter County Sheriff's Department on Monday released the name of the 26-year-old man who was gunned down in Yuba City over the weekend.

Investigators found the bullet-riddled body of Michael Suarez in his garage, shortly after police responded to reports of shots fired early Saturday in the 100 block of Del Monte Avenue.

An autopsy was scheduled Monday, but results were not released.

During an investigation, police arrested Jedidiah Jose Salazar and Maria Christina Velasco, Suarez's roommates, on suspicion of being accessories to murder after the fact.

Gang involvement hasn't been ruled out, spokeswoman Shawna Pavey said.

Police found Suarez's body shortly after they arrived at 12:30 a.m. when a trail of blood led officers to the front door.

Unable to reach anyone, officers went through an open garage door and discovered Suarez lying dead on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

Several neighbors said a large party had been taking place that night, which at one point broke into a large brawl.

Pavey said the Police Department isn't ready to release any more information.
