Yuba College's athletic departmant can start making room for another banner in its remodeled gymnasium.
Led by a host of local talent, Yuba's volleyball team continued its torrid run and clinched at least a share of the Bay Valley Conference title following an easy three-set victory over visiting Laney on Wednesday night in Linda.
The 49ers won by game scores of 25-8, 25-9, 25-10, improving their mark to an impressive 21-1 overall and a perfect 14-0 in the BVC. Yuba now holds a two-game lead over second-place Napa with just two games left to play.
It was also the 14th consecutive victory by the Niners, whose only setback of the season came at Butte College on Sept. 19.
"Even if we had a mediocre season, I would've been happy," Yuba coach Greg Chapman said. "It's just a bonus they happen to be good. It's a very good group of girls, so I've been blessed."
Sutter High grad Katie Olson led the way on Wednesday by tallying 12 kills, four digs and a pair of aces, while Yuba City product Katie Reiland chipped in with 12 kills and a block. Reiland also posted a hitting percentage of .611 in the match.
East Nicolaus alum Emily Toledo added seven kills and two aces, Yuba City's Alyssa Mills had two kills, six digs and three aces, and Sutter's Shaila Gidel moved to middle hitter and produced six aces, five digs and two blocks in the victory.
Sam Foster dished out 33 assists and served for three aces, and twin sister Allison Foster finished with seven digs to round out the leaders for the 49ers.
Yuba will host Napa on Friday before concluding the regular season at Mendocino on Tuesday.
