Yuba College football ends season with big win over Mendocino
49ers men's hoops loses to CCSF
The Yuba College football team ended its season on a high note with a 24-9 Bay Valley Conference victory over Mendocino in Linda on Saturday night.
The 49ers ended the season at 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the BVC.
Yuba City High product Max Flores had a huge night for Yuba. With his team trailing 2-0 in the second quarter after a safety, Flores picked off a pass and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown.
Yuba extended that lead to 14-2 later in the second on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Zach Hutcheson to Jeremy Williams.
Mendocino cut that deficit to 14-9 with 4:55 remaining in the first half on an 80-yard kickoff return for a score.
That's all Mendocino would get though as the 49ers defense held the Eagles scoreless over the final two periods.
John Leal nailed a 25-yard field goal in the third quarter and Flores struck again in the fourth quarter with a forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown by Shamon Renolds.
Flores ended his night with four sacks, 41⁄2 tackles for loss, 13 tackles (12 solo), two pass break-ups, two forced fumbles and an interception.
Juan Johnson carried the ball 38 times for 151 yards to lead the ground attack for Yuba. Williams caught five balls for 56 yards.
