Yuba men cruise at Modesto Tournament

Freshman forward Chris Smith dropped in 15 points and came down with 10 rebounds and the Yuba College men's basketball team picked up its second straight victory with an 80-67 win over Reedley at the Modesto Tournament on Friday morning.

Freshman guard Darrell Polee Jr. added 15 points and dished out four assists, and fellow freshman Jaysen Williams finished with eight points and 11 rebounds for the 49ers, who improved to 4-4 on the year with the victory.

"We scrapped and fought and got a win," said Yuba coach Doug Cornelius, who added that the Niners played the game without the services of leading scorer Achoki Moikobu.

The win propels the 49ers into today's consolation championship game against Chaffey College, the No. 10-ranked team in the state.
