Yuba men's hoops rolls Alameda

The Yuba College men's basketball team received a huge lift from freshman Akachi Okugo on Thursday night.

After holding a big lead for the majority of the game, the 49ers let Alameda cut the deficit to eight points with 2 minutes left in regulation. Luckily, Okugo was nails from the free-throw line.

Yuba's point guard scored a team-high 20 points, 16 of which came at the foul line, as the 49ers topped Alameda 73-59 on the road to improve to 3-0 in the Bay Valley Conference.

Okugo also dished out six assists for Yuba (9-6), which continues its BVC slate on Saturday at home against Napa Valley College.

Sophomore Yev Dyachenko added 14 points for the 49ers with four 3-pointers. Jaysen Williams tacked on seven points and 10 rebounds.

Darrell Polee had a nice all-around game for Yuba with five points, five steals and 10 rebounds.

Yuba led Alameda 38-22 at halftime.
