Another BVC win for Yuba men

Yuba College men's basketball coach Doug Cornelius said things were "pretty ugly" on Friday night, but he's still happy to be undefeated in the Bay Valley Conference.

The 49ers defeated Solano College 71-59 to begin the second cycle of BVC competition in Linda as they moved to 9-0 in conference play.

"It wasn't pretty," Cornelius said. "It was one of those games that seemed like it was never going to end. It just had no flow."

Yuba holds a two-game lead in the conference ahead of Contra Costa and Merritt with seven games remaining on the schedule. The 49ers will travel to Contra Costa on Wednesday.

Chris Smith led Yuba (15-6) with 13 points, while sophomore guard Achoki Moikobu had a nice all-around game with nine points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Yev Dyachenko scored 10 off the bench and Akachi Okugo added seven points and six assists at point guard. Big man Jaysen Williams pulled down eight rebounds to go with six points.

The 49ers, who are the six-time defending conference champions, led 34-24 at halftime and all but one player on Yuba's roster scored in the victory.

The win was also Yuba's 38th consecutive BVC victory dating back to the 2009-10 season.
