Yuba College baseball dropped by Mendocino

The Yuba College baseball team dropped its second consecutive game following a 4-2 loss to Mendocino in a Bay Valley Conference contest in Ukiah on Saturday afternoon.

Dallas Cummings led the 49ers at the plate by going 2 for 4 including an RBI single that plated Tyler Kreditor in the second inning. Lead-off hitter Brandon Lockwood drove in Michael Frantz on a fielder's choice in the third that gave Yuba a 2-1 lead, but the Eagles answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning and added two more in the fifth in what proved to be the deciding margin.

Lockwood and Frantz both doubled for the 49ers, who collected seven hits on the day.

Ryan Pope took the loss after allowing four earned runs on nine hits over five innings of work. He struck out two, walked two and hit two batters.

The loss dropped Yuba to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in BVC play. The 49ers are now tied for second place with Marin and Los Medanos, one game back of conference leaders Mendocino and Solano.

Yuba will host Marin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Appeal-Democrat Park in Marysville.
